ALICE
So very shortly after our last session, I was watching a little G4 Tech TV and came across a program they were profiling which was designed to teach kids the basics of computer programming in a 3D environment. Developed at Carnegie Mellon, it’s called Alice, and it seems to share some similar qualities to Scratch, only this program lets you takes thing into the mystical realm of the thrid dimension. Anyway, you can download and learn more about it from the people who spent years making it here.

Anyway I think this would be a good addition for those interested in 3D programming.

Alice is a great tool! Something similar but oriented towards those with more developed programming skills is Panda3D. Also from Carnegie Mellon, in cooperation with Disney, it’s a 3D game programming environment using Python. Great if, after Alice, you want to improve your 3D game programming skills.
