So I’m putting together the catalog copy and cover mockup for my upcoming graphic novel, Therefore Repent!, and Salgood’s done another killer job on the art. My favourite comment so far: “When I looked closer the dog’s eyes seem to be, uh, overflowing with evil.” I told Salgood about it and he said he just drew a blank eyed stare and people read it as demonic.
Keep reading to check out the cover it its full glory, wingèd helmet and all…
Therefore Repent! is a graphic novel set in a Chicago neighbourhood after The Rapture. Once the righteous have floated bodily into the sky, life goes on pretty much as usual for the immoral majority. Except that magic works, if you’re willing to risk demonic mutations. CNN reports that Mr. Christ and Mr. Bush are on a speaking tour of the red states. And an angelic army appears to have been deployed to mop up the sinners. But through it all, outsiders Raven and Mummy face the possibility of a bigger problem than the end of the world: the end of their relationship.
In the tradition of The Book of Revelation, Therefore Repent! is a lurid dark fantasy tale. By taking the apocryphal scripture as literal truth — as the American powers-that-be claim to do — the story also explores the political and spiritual ramifications of God abandoning humanity.
On writer Jim Munroe’s comic-inspired novel Flyboy Action Figure Comes With Gasmask
“It’s an excellent book — a funny, cool riff on superpowers and twentysomethingness.” –Neil Gaiman (The Sandman)
“Jim Munroe has written the first novel to harness the energy, idealism, and cartoon-inspired playfulness of the new wave of culture jammers. It’s about time we have some superheroes to save us after the post-irony meltdown — forces of corporate darkness, beware.” –Naomi Klein (No Logo)
