Love Unborn: Analysis
"Put your cord on me,
foetus, put your cord on me!" begs the nameless protagonist as a large
rubber puppet performs oral loving on him. Although using an umbilical
cord as a sexual aid opens up many rich areas for debate -- pre-kiddie
porn? -- one stands out: Is the foetus male or female?
Viewers of the prebirth star's previous efforts may have assumed,
given its predilection for world domination and aggressive spinal
fluid theft, that it was male. And Dr. Clockwise's references to
it as "My Lord" and "Grandmaster" certainly reinforce that. But
given the way the womb-ster allows itself to be wooed by the overwhelmingly
masculine hero in the following film -- indeed, the film still captures
even an eagerness -- the viewer is forced to reassess.
The age of this rising star might hold the key. -.3 years of age,
this preborn actor has not yet developed genitals of any kind, and
certainly no social roles. Making the word "actor" apply to both
genders was just paving the way for this phenom who can play either
-- and it may just redefine the way we look at cinema.
