Date of birth?
03 October 1968.
Is there a difference
in reader response to books as opposed to zines?
One would think the response would vary with each intended
audience, and I guess people are a bit more apt to express a reply
to a book if it embodies more effort, but for me, both modes have
been received quite well, so no, not really, at least not at this
level.
How do you decide
the price of your books?
Cost, plus a buck or two. Soon, from the sales, I hope
to afford the ability to bind it myself, greatly reducing cost and
price.
What goes into
choosing a cover? Back cover blurb?
Right now, all I have is this children¹s picture book.
I thought about doing another painting for the cover, but that would¹ve
set me back even farther behind schedule, so I just went with the
most colorful one.
What's your editing/refining
process?
Equal parts coffee/friends, knead in an inordinate amount of time,
let rise what will.
What was your
print run and how much did it cost? How did you raise the money
to publish?
I¹ve shopped around and decided it would be best to
just do a couple, maybe four at a time. I print them myself, then
take them to a local print shop to be laminated (covers) and bound.
Four copies will run about $25. Like I said above, I want to invest
any profit into a binder. So far, well, so far it¹s been a
labor of love.
What have you
done to promote it?
Hardly anything, except yard sales and giving it to friends and
teachers. A marketer I ain¹t, but your section here on distribution
and promotion has really helped me think through things. When I
get a surplus, I want to put them in libraries and a few independent
bookstores. A tour sounds fun. At this rate, however, that¹d
be long off.
How can people
get your book now?
http://www.vineyardcentral.com/08gallery/forsale.html,
or if ever we meet, save two bucks shipping, and get it from me
personally.
What will you
do differently next time, if anything?
I have a series of longer children¹s stories in mind, which
I don¹t plan to illustrate, so I may drop the pen name (Ewe
Vüllah), but maybe not.
Why are so few
women self-publishing books?
Good question! As a newcomer to this, I¹m really in no position
to answer that.
